This course (BioDATA) aims at providing practical and theoretical introduction to the principles of DNA barcoding and metabarcoding, data collection and management through the open-access GBIF.org and Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) data platforms. The course will use a combination of lectures, tutorials, and hands-on exercises.

Topics:

1. Importance of international biodiversity infrastructures, and how these can contribute to biodiversity assessments, monitoring, conservation, and red-listing.
2. How to handle biodiversity data including DNA barcoding and practice capturing observation, collection, and genetic data from analogue and digital sources.
3. Explore the benefits of FAIR and open data principles in biodiversity research and collaboration.
